"Oklahoma"

27th - 31st March, 7.30 p.m. at HQ Assembly Hall, Sandford Road, Chelmsford.

On a fine new century summer’s day in American Indian Territory, ranch hand Curly is infatuated with Laurey who lives with her well respected and motherly Aunt Eller.  Unfortunately, Curly and Laurey are both too proud to admit they love each other and to spite Curly, Laurey accepts an invitation to the local dance from Jud Fry, their farm labourer, a disturbed and dubious character.

Meanwhile Will Parker has returned early from his trip to Kansas City where he won $50 in a roping competition, which he needs to marry his sweetheart Ado Annie.  Unfortunately, she can’t say no to other men, especially the wily Persian Pedlar Ali Hakim, a fact her father is eager to exploit, not happy with the prospect of Will “the cowboy”, as a son-in-law.

Meanwhile, Curly gets snatched up by Gertie Cummings and they all attend the dance, where Curly and Jud try to outbid each other for Laurey’s hamper but more importantly her heart.

But who will prevail in this most important and ultimately dangerous endeavour and who will have the dubious honour of marrying Annie?

A great show including the songs “Oh what a beautiful morning”, “I can’t say no”, “Surry with the fringe on top”, “People will say we’re in love” and many more.
