Essex Police Musical Society performed their first show back in 1966 and now put on two shows a year, one in April and one in September.
In April each year we put on a large musical production which we perform for six performances (Tuesday to Saturday with a matinee on the Saturday). These shows have ranged from Fiddler on the Roof, to Half a Sixpence, from Kiss Me Kate to The Wizard of Oz and Anything Goes to Gilbert and Sullivan. The Society tries very hard to vary the shows each year which both broadens our horizons and caters for our audiences’ different tastes.
We put on an Annual Concert in September which runs for four performances Wednesday to Saturday. This is an informal cabaret type show with the audience seated around tables and encouraged to bring their own drinks and have a good old sing song. We aim to donate some of the proceeds to various local charities. A theme is chosen by the committee (with enthusiastic input from the entire membership whose ideas are always welcome) and we usually start rehearsing in May/June. These concerts are great fun where everyone can choose to perform solos, in groups, or in the resounding chorus numbers. It has to be said that this is the best forum for discovering new and sometimes hidden talent in our very versatile cast membership and they are always enormous fun.
